We need life purpose to focus on the right thing
Makzan’s Dispatch 2020 week 14
|Thomas Seng Hin Mak||Apr 4|| 1|
I mentioned how I focus on working by using “focus sessions” in the week 12 newsletter. But focusing on the wrong thing can lead to the wrong direction as well. That’s why we need to have life purposes. I first learned this 12 years ago from GTD’s 50,000 feet article.
So in my focus sessions system, I defined goals from different levels:
five-year goal (Role)
If the focus sessions, or the time spent, do not fit into my goal for a long while, I know something goes wrong. This acts as a map of my life purpose so that I won’t get lost during day-to-day busy tasks. I can measure how well I align my tasks with my long term goals.
So, does what you are focusing on now match your life purpose?
