Thanks for sharing, been looking long time for my successor to NvALT. When you write "In Mac, I use nvALT for lightweight access" do you mean you've found a way for Obsidian and NvALT to share the same vault (note folder)?
Great tip, got it working! Another downside is that Obsidian's default file format cannot be changed from .md, which makes all the new notes unreadable by nvALT

Yes, by sharing the same folder. The downside is that I can't have nested folder in Obsidian for nvALT to work.

I changed the nvALT to accept .md format and as default format to overcome this.
